When to Call an Emergency Electrician

Some electrical situations should not wait. The following are all reasons to call us immediately rather than attempting a fix yourself or waiting until the next working day:

  • Complete or partial loss of power to your property
  • Burning smell from sockets, switches or consumer unit
  • Sparking from a socket or fitting
  • RCD or MCB that keeps tripping immediately after reset
  • Visible damage to wiring or accessories
  • Flooding that has affected electrical equipment
  • Exposed live conductors or missing blanks

Safety Advice While You Wait

Do not reset a tripping RCD repeatedly

If the RCD keeps tripping when reset, leave it off and call us. Repeated resetting can increase the risk.

Isolate individual appliances first

If you suspect a specific appliance is causing an RCD trip, unplug everything from the affected circuits before resetting.

Never touch an exposed conductor

If you can see bare wire or damaged insulation, do not touch it. Isolate at the consumer unit if you can do so safely.

Use torches, not candles

Use torches or battery-powered lights if you lose power. Candles significantly increase fire risk, especially in rental properties.

Gas smells need a different emergency number

If you can smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency line on 0800 111 999 — this is separate from an electrical fault.

Landlord Urgent Electrical Repairs

Landlords have a legal duty to ensure their rental properties are safe. Under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1985, electrical installations must be maintained in a safe condition throughout the tenancy. If a tenant reports a significant electrical fault — particularly one that affects their safety or access to power — this should be treated as a priority repair.

We regularly assist landlords across Eltham and SE9 with urgent electrical repairs in occupied properties. We're experienced at coordinating access with tenants, working quickly and professionally, and providing documentation that satisfies letting agent and council requirements.

If you're a landlord with an urgent repair, call us on 0800 820 2088 and we'll assess availability and aim to get to the property as quickly as possible.

Subject to availability — we'll always do our best.
