Electrical Diagnosis & Repair

Fault Finding in Eltham

Systematic diagnosis of electrical faults across Eltham, SE9 and South East London. We find the underlying cause — not just reset the board and hope for the best.

Common Electrical Faults We Diagnose

RCD tripping

The RCD or RCBO trips immediately or shortly after being reset. This indicates a current leakage fault on one or more circuits — often a faulty appliance, damaged cable or deteriorated accessory.

Dead circuits

A circuit that won't come on at all despite the MCB or fuse being intact. Can be caused by a broken connection, a damaged cable, a failed junction or a fault at an accessory.

Intermittent power

Power that works some of the time but not reliably. Often caused by a loose connection at a socket, junction box or consumer unit, or by an ageing connection that makes contact intermittently.

Lighting faults

Lights that flicker, fail intermittently or trip repeatedly. Can be caused by incorrect lamp types, overloaded circuits, damaged lamp holders or faulty wiring connections.

Burning smells

A burning smell without a visible cause is always a reason to call immediately. It may indicate overheating at a connection point, damaged insulation or an accessory that is about to fail.

Our Approach to Fault Finding

Electrical faults can have a range of causes, and jumping to conclusions is inefficient and expensive. We take a methodical approach: isolating the affected circuit, eliminating potential causes systematically and using calibrated test equipment to measure what's actually happening.

A common example is an RCD that trips. The first step is identifying which circuit is causing the trip — using the individual MCBs or RCBOs to isolate circuits one at a time. Then each circuit is tested to identify whether the fault is in the wiring itself, an accessory or a connected appliance. Once the fault is located, we discuss the best course of action and carry out a repair.

We don't charge separately for diagnosis and repair in most cases. If a fault is found and fixed on the same visit, the call-out charge covers both.

Calibrated test equipment

We use professional insulation resistance testers, loop impedance testers and RCD testers.

Methodical isolation

Circuit-by-circuit approach to identify the source before recommending any repair.

Clear explanation

We explain what we found and why it happened — not just fix it and leave.
